Conceptual sculpture Kerim Seiler was born in 1974 in Zürich. He lives and works in Zürich, Berlin and Johannesburg. Seilers wide-ranging practice - installation, sculpture, painting and drawing - has sought to challenge the boundaries between art, science and popular culture. His energy and inventiveness and his consistently visceral, visually arresting work, has made him one of the leading artist of his generation in Switzerland
Seiler explores the uncertainty at the core of human experience; love, life, death, loyalty and betrayal through unexpected and unconventional media. Best known in Zürich for »Kerims Lampenladen« which present different colored neon tubes in vitrines suspended from the celling of Zurich's main train station, his works recast fundamental questions concerning the meaning of life and the fragility of biological existence. For Seiler, the vitrine functions as both window and barrier, seducing the viewer into the work visually while providing a minimalist geometry to frame, contain and objectify his subject.
His work has been shown in various exhibitions in Moscow, Cairo, Cracow, Marseille, Zurich, New York, Berlin, Paris, Los Angeles and Johannesburg. He is represented by Grieder Contemporary in Zurich.
